No Tax on Soc Sec is a big deal. If I didn't have mortgage interest to deduct each year I would have to pay almost $800 in income tax. My wife and I only have Soc Sec and no other income. Most people who are retired are living a overly rich life style - we are living month to month. As Medicare goes up, our Soc Sec Income keeps going down. Medicare and Food cost isn't included in the COLA calculations! Soc Sec income goes up 2.5% and Medicare cost goes up 3.7%. We keep going backwards.
