Tracking the Tropics: Hurricane Bonnie threatens to bring dangerous conditions to Mexico's coastline

Hurricane Bonnie is strengthening and expected to bring rip currents and rough surf to parts of southern Mexico's coastline as the storm continues its trek into the Pacific Ocean.

As of 11 p.m. Monday, the National Hurricane Center said Bonnie was about 220 miles south of Zihuatanejo and packing sustained winds of 105 mph – with higher gusts. The storm was chugging west-northwest at 16 mph.

Bonnie made landfall Friday night as a tropical storm near the border of Nicaragua and Costa Rica, inundating the region with heavy rain. Bonnie is currently at Category 1 hurricane strength. As of right now, there is no threat to Florida or the United States from this system.
