How Is An EMPEROR'S CHAMPION Made? Black Templars Lore | Warhammer 40k

The Emperor's Champion is easily one of the coolest units in all of Warhammer 40k. But why are they only ever seen within the ranks of the Black Templars? How are they chosen?

Would you consider doing a video on Sigismund the fist chapter master of the black templars though?

Lore info on him
- fought in the great crusade
- Rogal Dorns greatest and most deadly son
- One of the fist space marines to completely believe the emperor is a god
- Fought angron during the siege of terra (Not 100% sure on this one)
- Fought Kharn the betrayer and only lost because he became a deamon prince
- He couldn't be beaten by sevatar of the night lords despite sevatar being able to see the future actions he would make
- Fought several other very notable space marines in single combat
- Sanguinius personally described him as quote "Less my brother's son, and more death itself."
- During the siege of terra he was given the best armor and weapons the imperium had and told to kill the traitor legions champions in 1v1 combat
- Nearly killed ABADON in 1v1 combat when the traitor legions returned and only lost because he was 1000 years old and the dark gods themselves had to personally save his ass

So.... yay please do an episode on this MONSTER!

What's scarier, fighting an Emperor's Champion or defeating an Emperor's Champion? Since even if you manage to beat one, the Galaxy's angriest boys are now making a beeline towards you, probably even angrier than before.

Oh also if a regular human was to recover said artifacts and return them to the black templars. The black templars will give them a fucking planet. Or something of high social status. Even promise of protection for the persons entire blood line for until said bloodline ceases. Like he said they take these highly seriously, as seriously as the Admech with STC’s. Pretty much same concept. Recover said artifact and that faction will set you up for life and beyond.

I'm quite surprised that it seems like the ritual to become a champion doesn't involve excruciating pain and unending suffering, like basically everything else in Warhammer lore

The tradition of the emperor’s champion dates back to the siege of terra it self, when Sigismund the first emperor’s champion and founder of the black templars went on a massive killing spree of heretic commanders. He killed a boat load of commanders, like an insane amount. He would later die to the hands of Abadon the Despoiler during his first back crusade. He died, but he had one of the most bad ass final words in all of 40k. Some thing to the effect of “ you will die as your weakling father did alone, hated, without friends, without honor” I don’t know the exact quote so please don’t kill me. He said this only after being cleaved in half by the talons of Horus, the ones that killed sanguinius and doomed the emperor to sit upon the golden throne for all eternity.

In the book series "Priests of Mars", we actually can see how this ritual takes places, as one of the 6 Black Templar mentioned there becomes a Champion of the emperor. These books are a pretty good read!

I find really paradoxical that The Emperor, a strong enforcer of a scientific view of the universe, picks his champion from a chapter of madmen and fanatics.

I really like the black templar since the first minis I painted (am still painting) are black templar
(not original GW minis but 3D prints)
And and for the kill team battles planned with a friend I'm going to use a Emperor's Champion as a captain

My favorite emporers champion moment was when the Emporers champion fell in helsreach and Grimaldus looks at Priamus (a young arrogant blademaster) and tells him "Priamus, you are the last Emporer's Champion of the Helsreach crusade. Now pick up your blade!" Yep gives me chills everytime

their datasheets reflects their fearsomeness quite well, but another cool thing about templars is that they chain their weapons to them- so yes, the only reason that sword is lost is because the marine died fighting
