Today's Catholic Mass Gospel and Reflection for September 9, 2024 - Luke 6:6-11

Healing on the Sabbath

Memorial of Saint Peter Claver, Priest
Lectionary: 437

Alleluia: Jn 10:27
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
My sheep hear my voice, says the Lord;
I know them, and they follow me.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel: Luke 6:6-11
And it happened that, on another Sabbath, he entered into the synagogue and taught. And there was a man there, and his right hand was withered. The scribes and Pharisees observed whether he would heal on the Sabbath, so that they might thereby find an accusation against him. Yet truly, he knew their thoughts, and so he said to the man who had the withered hand, “Rise up and stand in the middle.” And rising up, he stood still. Then Jesus said to them: “I ask you if it is lawful on the Sabbaths to do good, or to do evil? To give health to a life, or to destroy it?” And looking around at everyone, he said to the man, “Extend your hand.” And he extended it. And his hand was restored. Then they were filled with madness, and they discussed with one another what, in particular, they might do about Jesus.

Monday, September 9, 2024 - A moment with GOD through HIS WORD.

Reflection: Are there hidden motives in your heart that you need to confront and change, or do your actions reflect true love and faith?

Prayer: My glorious Lord, you know all thoughts and probe the depths of every heart. You know me, Lord, through and through. Please open my eyes to see that which is within me so that I can discern the ill intentions I have and rejoice in the virtues given to me by You. May I always be attentive to You, dear Lord, so that I become aware of all that You wish to reveal to me. Jesus, I trust in You.

"Allow Him to reveal the depths of your heart to you so that you can turn away from the sins you find and rejoice in the virtues by which you live." Dearest Father, I always trust in You. I need too to always hold -- difficult at times to do -- to the virtues of faith, hope and charity. AMDG ...

Great food for thought! The omniscience of God clearly removes from us anyway of hiding our actions. The clear reality of our faith is to serve His will and to direct us in it. We readily accept that God is love and that His love has no bounds or end. But how do we return that abundant love to Him, after all we are but flesh. In His eyes our love is shown by our actions in service to Him. He gave us the perfect example in Jesus. Living a life in humblness and humility. Pride, ego, discrimination, selfishness, all must go. The acceptance that God created all means that He loves all that He created. We need not read or listen to the news too see how short we come to His desire. Amazingly though, He persist to still love us! With all the flaws we have, God still considers us as precious and valued! It is the faith and trust He has in His disciples which fuel His hope for us. Serving the truth and always seeking it, no matter the outcome, is what gives Him hope also. As followers of Christ, we must always seek every occasion that presents itself to spread the Good News of the gospel, and the hope that lies in it's acceptance to all! Time is really irrelevant since God is the only one who knows how much time we have. Rest assured that as short as it is, our little bit of input will have a great meaning to the outcome of God's plan for it. Praise be to God!🙏💖🕊🕊🕊🕊
