R1S owner here- this thing is the real deal. Shockingly great product from a start-up. The problem is that no body but enthusiasts know about the company but that is slowly changing. I have no problem getting through deep beach sand in this heavy SUV - have not gotten stuck yet. Extremely capable trucks.

You can buy a Rivian R1S with 3 different batteries. The smallest is 92KW and the largest has the long range.

My neighbor two doors down has an R1T. There are several in our area and they are well used. I hope you get them there soon.

Hybrid battery wouldn't affect the range since the capacity is known.

It would be things like aero, weight, motor efficiency etc that would give the increased range efficiency.

Have liked the Rivian since I saw Charley Boorman and Ewan McGregor do the Long Way Up bike ride with 2 Rivians supporting them from the bottom of South America to the US. They have potential, but the cost to get them in Oz if they ever come will be pretty over the top. Heres hoping they ramp up, cut costs extensively and batteries get cheaper by another 50% real soon!

Agree with you Sam. I went to see the Cybertruck at Tesla Parramatta, a few people taking pictures, and one guy next to me said, "I would never drive this thing, but If Rivian brings the R1T to Australia, that will be my next Truck". Rivian got already few fans in here.

Rivian has a large presence here in Northern Virginia and in Leesburg and Richmond. Once they get production volume up they will be profitable and will grow. Solid product with great software.

The 92kwh LFP battery will not get 400 miles of range, that will be the 150kwh max pack. The smaller battery will get 270-310.

I think the R2 and R3 are much more suited for the Australian market.

I think you mixed several stats. First off, the 22s will be "efficiency" tire moving forward and the 21s are abandoned because there is only one tire choice. At 2.5 mi/kwh the 22s are good for 380 miles with the max pack currently. Post factory shut down there are several changes including decreasing the number of ECU units. Heat pump may help people in cold climates but the existing heat scavenging off the inverters and motors works fine. Augmented by a ptc it warms the cabin faster than an ice. Currently they are using software locked batteries to specific ranges on the lower range options until lfp rolls out. The large pack and max pack weigh the same but have different cells. The standard pack is a locked large and the standard plus a lock max I think.
The r1 is unlikely to be exported despite the ccs2 harness that exists. The r2 and r3 however will likely have international compliant marker lights and such. There are a couple of R1 vehicles in AU imported mevco. I hope rivian makes it to Australia.

Sam - in Rivian's last press day they mentioned taking out a lot of weight from current design and improvements to efficiency using their own in house motor and power train. Some of that might explain increase in efficiency.

Rivian has increased their vertical integration and are building out their own battery capability. They are building a 4695 battery facility in the US which will be the foundation for all of their products.
