To solve the equation (x(x-5) = 24)

Step 1: Expand the left side of the equation by multiplying.
[x^2 - 5x = 24]

Step 2: Move all terms to one side to set the equation to zero.
[x^2 - 5x - 24 = 0]

Step 3: Factor the quadratic equation, if possible. In this case, you can factor the quadratic equation into ((x - 8)(x + 3)).

[x^2 - 5x - 24 = (x - 8)(x + 3)]

Step 4: Apply the zero product property, which states that if the product of two factors is zero, then at least one of the factors must be zero.

So, either (x - 8 = 0) or (x + 3 = 0).

Solving (x - 8 = 0), we get:
[x = 8]

Solving (x + 3 = 0), we get:
[x = -3]

So, the solutions to the equation (x(x-5) = 24) are (x = 8) and (x = -3).
