Virgin Pendolino on Fire

While waiting for a steam special a Virgin Pendolino appeared on the up line at Rugeley Trent Valley station. It appeared to be fresh out of the works and was on a test run. Lots of activity by the train crew. It finally limped into the station and put all local service on hold incruding the special.Appologies for the commentry.

I remember being on one of these when the same thing happened. I think its a problem with the brakes that stick on and overheat. I imagine the driver was waiting for them to cool down.

Hi, the steam engine was 70000 Brittania and the date was sometime in late 2012. Unfortunately I was unable to remain on site due to other commitments. With the amount of smoke comming from the pendolio it was nearly as good as a steam special.

It looked like the brakes for the far end of the train, the opposite cab end to the end the train was being controlled from, were dragging. This would explain the smoke, especially if the train was fresh out of the works

Smoking is not allowed anywhere at this station, or on trains. This includes e-cigarettes.

That is steam, if the train was on fire the smoke would be black. Possible cooling radiator rupture somewhere in the engine or transformer part. It is an electric train.

oops somebody probably forgot turn the switch changing the supply system to the higher range. this could only happen if somebody run the train switched to lower range then real in the trolley
