For the second question, you can also use this method:

330 miles-270 miles=60 miles(difference in time between two trains)
60 miles/12 mph=5 hours(difference in distance divided by difference in time between two trains to get the amount of time taken)
Speed of freight train:330 miles/5 hours=66 mph
Speed of passenger train:270 miles/5 hours=54 mph
