Ancient Casqui ~ Parkin Site, Ark. & de Soto's Cross

Back to Ancient America. Arkansas. The Parkin Archaeological State Park was most likely the site of Casqui...a large pyramid mound city that Hernando de Soto visited 480 years ago. His journal states his party planted a large wooden cross on top of the large mound at Casqui on July 4, 1541. And maybe it was found 4 years ago.

Coincident! I drove by the Parkin site yesterday. Well worth a visit, very nice people running the museum and park. Thanks!

DeSoto's travels is a very fascinating story in American history. I recommend the book by Charles Hudson. Before De Soto, a spaniard explorer by the name Cabeza de Vaca informed DeSoto of the land and Indians of America, based on his own odyssey traveling from Florida to New Mexico.

Thanks
Never heard again of this outside of learning about De Soto in school. Great explorers or some such chapter no doubt.
Seems there were few if any that were decent to the people they incountered.
Never heard about THAT in the 60s and 70s textbooks.
As this town had elaborate protective measures built one could infer that they were not on great terms with the neighbors. Perhaps they migrated from the south to escape issues down there.
Didn't some of the cultures in Mexico and central America implode 1000+ years ago.
Thanks again.

There are mound culture towns up and down all the rivers and tributaries in this area. The populations must have exceeded the amounts of people who live there now.

Nice I think I suggested this one! Less than an hour from me!
Thanks Chuck!!

I’d love to take some pics and get more info for you if you’re interested. Let me know if so and what you’d like me to look into. I’ll definitely ask if there is any updated info on the wood / cross.

👍👍👍

This definitely shows me that a major flood (the mud flood most likely) happened between Desoto and the United States. The mound has been mostly buried. I believe this is what happened to most "Mounds" in America. I believe many of them were pyramids, now just mounds. This is easy to see in Miamisburg OH, and many many more "Mounds or Battle Mounds". There are many scattered throughout Arkansas. Thank you so much for these videos.

The Best Mounds in Arkansas are the Toltec Indian Mounds in Scott, Arkansas. There are quite a few mounds, interesting place.👍🏽

The Casqui are the second of Five Chosen Tribes to have been brought to an island outside of Oz in my Oz Novels. In particular, the Casqui's youngest son coming-of-age is a war party against the Pacaha.

Desoto described seeing giants and dwarfs among the natives in the city..wonder why mainstream doesn't document that stuff

I would love to see a map of ancient pre-contact sites in the US.

I believe DeSoto wintered there since the natives were willing to provide their new god and army with food.

I've met a few tattooed, pierced, and scarred pot heads... They were not very intriguing.
