I understand it is not of any strategic importance just symbolic. The Russians have lost a great many men there along with I suppose lesser an amount from the defenders as is always the case. Ukraine can pull back now and consolidate it's forces ready for a push in around April/May. Russia will of course call it a victory, yet I doubt it's Mothers of the lost will agree.

Yea both roads out of the city have been under fire control for 5-7 days. Any and all movement can be hit by tanks, artillery, drones, rocket systems or small arms from recon units. They’re trapped

The stuff that's going on in Ukraine right now is on a scope and scale of violence we didn't even imagine. This is very different from the last 20 years in which we deployed smallish groups of people to conduct limited activities on a rotational schedule. Everything was quite predictable and containable. The idea of large-scale war like we're seeing in Ukraine requires different levels of readiness, it requires different force models for preparation, it requires different tactics and operational art, and it requires different pieces of kit. (USA is not trained, equipped or prepared, for that kind of fighting)
