Not yet in the calculation is consumer reaction. The us may find it very hard to sell American product to European consumers, if anti american sentiment grows.
It is said the consumer is always right, and they will individually decide where to spend their money. The affect of trumps tariffs on the price of US manufactured products, will be to increase their prices, making them even less attractive to consumers across europe and around the globe. At the same time products that would have sold in the US will now flood the world markets, with a likely drop in prices. All this without considering the impact of any reciprocal tariff that will only target the US.
