This video includes 22 types of mechanism and that not all yet...

You can see here:
cam mechanisms
maltese cross mechanisms
ratchet mechanisms
Reuleaux triangle based mechanisms
simple and gerotor gears
and the walking mechanism by Teo Yansens

to be continued....
The idea of this video was taken from the larger work by Ralph Steiner.

Music:
"Ashes by Eunoia & Sappheiros" is free to use on YouTube as long as you give credits to the artists.

In case anyone wants to know what each one is called:
00:15 modified geneva mechanism
00:20 geneva mechanism
00:29 universal joint (often replaced by constant velocity joint these days)
00:42 to 01:36 various ratcheting systems. Seiko mechanical watch uses similar mechanism to 1:10 to allow for bi-directional winding.
01:41 to 02:49 various cam mechanisms.
01:41 modified scotch yoke
01:58 is likely to wear out really fast due to impact load and use of sliding surface instead of rolling surface.
02:00 simple scotch yoke.
02:09 to 2:37 reuleaux triangle mechanisms
02:52 spur gear with parts cutoff to look cool. looks pretty cool
03:00 gerotor. specialized form of helical internal gear.
03:19 helical gear with non-standard gear profile and a lot of twist-per-inch.
There might be a specialized name for it.
03:27 four Jansen's linkage driven by an eccentric shaft. A specialized form of six-bar-linkages

Dubstep isn’t quite the first genre that comes to mind when you hear “mechanical principles”, but great mechanism in general.

This will literally not stop being recommended to me.

Thanks, I worked in manufacturing and production and was always amazed how some of the fitters and maintenance staff came up with some of these designs without ever having seen them or knew about them, they just worked it out for themselves.

I think showing this to kids can help them appreciate math because this shows the real world application of being able to solve mathematical problems instead of just being lots of numbers, letters and symbols on a sheet of boring paper.

Now this, is my ASMR.
Also who else got this randomly recommended to them?

Ancient mechanisms represented by modeling in 3D.
Some of these are more than a century old.
New medium, old subjects.

I am a very visually oriented thinker and these visualizations have given me many good ideas to integrate into my inventions, thankyou.

Man, the animation at 2:50 surely makes me really hyped up for that dubstep drop, almost feels like the displayed visuals behind DJs at tours.
