Thom your description is right on the money, but let's not forget that some magnetic stainless steel is worth a bit more than regular stainless steel. 17-4 is a good example of magnetic stainless and yet worth more than regular steel, etc. keep up the good work. God bless y'all.

That is an amazing tip and I did not even know that it was stainless. I thought it was just some type of coding over the steel so now I learned something new today. I’ll be using them in my videos from now on.

Here in good old Huntington WV if the magnet sticks you gotta throw it in the shred pile

Bend, hammer, or coldwork 18-8 (304) in any way, and it goes from nearly nonmagnetic to magnetic.

This occurs only in the areas it's worked, for example a 304 stainless object that was formed or bent, will be magnetic where it was bent.

My buddy built a food truck and the County inspector failed it because he put a magnet on the stainless steel and it stuck. My buddy was all bummed so I had to give him a lesson (and ultimately the Inspector) on the different stainless steels.

The recycling center told me if the magnet sticks then it is in their words chrome plated steel. If I find any non magnetic my current scrap yard just lets me throw it together with aluminum. All mixed white metals same price.
