Taylor Swift’s Eras tour started out as a retrospective of her nearly two decade career and a celebration of her 10 iconic albums. It has become an unprecedented financial phenomenon that has already brought in $780 million in ticket sales, on its way to becoming the highest-grossing tour of all time. She pocketed an estimated $190 million after taxes from the first leg of the Eras tour and another $35 million from the first two weeks of screenings of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie. Altogether more than $500 million of Swift’s fortune is cash earned from music royalties and touring. Another $500 million is based on the rising value of her music catalog, and she has $125 million in real estate including six homes and a $10 million private plane.

At the end of the day, it's her publishing, and the fact that she owns a majority stake in it, and always has. When you hear about a $500 million dollar value on the "catalog" at 0:50, that's what they're talking about (they explain it more at 2:37). It's the fact that she has written or co-written *every* *single* *song* she has ever recorded for a label. It's what she has that few stars of her profile do, even Beyoncé (who, yes, has owned her masters of her RECORDINGS since her fourth album, but who lately has had to split publishing with all the writers of songs she samples—even if those samples show brilliant taste on her part, which they do), or Rihanna—whose billionnaire status, as we know, comes largely from her unprecedented success in the makeup world. It's what allows her to even be legally and practically *able* to complete the re-recording project in the first place without needing anyone's permission. It doesn't make any of these women "better" or "smarter" than the other.
