I love how Martin Sheen nails those personal, intimate moments with his staff and other politicians and then he’s back to being “The President”

Charlie. Instant like, as a character. So darn glad they found THIS actor to play him. President Jimmy Carter would have been delighted to hire Charlie. R.I.P

RIP Mr. President. The world, not just this nation, is better for the time you spent on it.

I can't say this enough: I am so glad they changed from their initial idea of having the President be invisible and just have his weight be felt.

The details.. Charlie saying hello's to CJ in the background while Leo is sparring with the president. It is just that what makes it so great.

Going back to this scene after Lily Tomlin joins the cast, just that little detail they remembered a few seasons later. Love Charlie so much, love this entire cast.

The things this video left out: how Josh and Leo were concerned about the optics of a black man serving the President, Fitz setting Leo straight on the matter, Bartlet losing his cool over not being able to find his glasses, Charlie figuring out where they are, and Leo and Jed talking about hiring him.

One of the best television series ever.

Watching this clip and the scene where Bartlett blows up at Charlie and Josh and then watching throughout the entire series how the relationship between both Charlie and President Bartlett grows into a father/son dynamic. The writers REALLY hit this out of the ballpark....no, it was a Grand Slam out of this world!!! There will NEVER be another show like it again.

Holy cow! I am in awe of this scene. President Bartlett made the job offer personal to Charlie. He took the time to make it personal, important to Charlie.
When Charlie said, "I've never felt this way before", I was right there was him, feeling like he felt.

President Jimmy Carter passed away today at the age of 100. 🕊️ 🙏🏼 🫡

Charlie humanised and grounded Jed at a time it was sorely needed in that moment. The growth of Charlie as a character was one of the best in that series, marked by the fact that although he showed deference to the job, he became unafraid to speak to the President as a person, rather than the position.

This scene is actually super important for a different reason than the obvious: the song playing, "Charlie in the Oval Office, " was reconfigured by W.G. Snuffy Walden to become what we know to be the West Wing theme song. Prior to this, it was a synthesized version of something else. If you love the West Wing opening credits song, you have this theme to thank, along with Walden for whom the West Wing remains his greatest work.

Really such a great start to what would be one of my (and I think many, many people's) favorite characters. So thankful fro Dule Hill!
