GatutKaca Gandrung is a dance that depicts Gatutkaca's love for Dewi Pergiwa, taken from the story "Pergiwa Pergiwati". This dance was created by K.G.P.A.A. Mangunagoro V (1881-1896) who was inspired by the dance "Kalana Gandrung" which depicts the love of Prabu Klana to Dewi Sekartaji.
Gatutkaca Gandrung dance in Pura Mangkunegaran is a solo dance that prioritizes the aesthetic aspects of dance movements, the performers do not need to sing their own songs or atawecana.
The tembang is sung by the waranggana (Javanese song singer) who sits between the musicians. Until the reign of KGPAA Mangkunagoro VII (1916).
