This campaign and marketing of diabetes has very clear links to health promotion initiatives that are created by agencies and forced upon our schools in New Zealand. The rise of Type 2 diabetes in New Zealand continues to grow, and I believe that there is more to tackling diabetes than 'good diet' and being 'active' as a good diet and being active is always different to every individual. Just as one persons definition of health is not the same as another's. Social determinants play a significant role in diabetes and some associated health issues such as obesity, these need to be taken into account when marketing for good 'health'.
