I am ready for the onslaught of comments about how you shouldn’t wear one 😂. BUT if you’ve ever ACTUALLY worked in healthcare, you very well know that the reality is SO so many do and will continue to do so. So we could either pretend it doesn’t happen or make a guide to making a better choice if you do.

I worked in healthcare my entire career. Get whatever you want, don’t wear it at work. It’s not a place for diamonds or large/sentimental jewelry. Get a sport band if you want to wear something.

Fun fact, no matter what kind of ring you get as a healthcare worker you’re not supposed to wear it at all, and most who do you have engagement rings while working either wear it as a necklace until they’re off their shift or they keep it tied to the pants of their scrubs in order to not lose their rings

My aunt works as a nurse and she has one of those ring necklaces so she can still wear her ring without worry of ripping gloves, hurting patients, or getting it contaminated 😊

Some of these comments🙄

Healthcare is a vast a diverse field, which those commenting they work in healthcare should know. If I am a gynecologist hands-deep delivering a baby, you best believe my ring is off. If I am in the clinic all day typing away patient notes or the lab pipetting until I lose my sanity, you best believe my ring is on. If you choose not to wear a ring, swipe on the shorts instead of typing out generalized, judgemental responses for those who choose differently. Imagine being in a field where autonomy is first and foremost, but you're unable to even respect an autonomous decision to wear jewelry. Can't imagine how y'all handle DNRs and refusal of treatment

This video is helpful for emergencies, accidents, or jobs where you occasionally wear gloves (healthcare and non-healthcare). I feel like it’s obvious that the message of this video is “rings aren’t supposed to be worn, but in the case that they are, these are the best options”.

The comments seem to suggest that every healthcare job is constant clinical procedures which require aseptic technique. I currently work in a GP practice as a doctor and spend most of the day talking to patients and doing simple examinations like taking blood pressure and looking at skin stuff. It is fine to wear a ring and just take it off for more intensive procedures but knowing which ring styles are least likely to snag or break either at work or in day to day life is still helpful. I appreciate this video a lot thank you. And no my workplace does not require me to be bare below the elbow constantly.

It’s so true. One of my dear friends lost her beautiful engagement ring at work when it came off in her glove and she didn’t notice for hours.

Let's not encourage nurses and doctors to wear jewelry during work hours.

I didn't work in healthcare, but I did work in food service so I wore a lot of gloves. washed my hands a lot. Same idea as healthcare, but honestly because of gross nastiness that I put my hands in all day everyday, I just wore one of those squishy bands to work or just my plain gold one with nothing on it. Because I know in healthcare and food service there's just some things that are really hard to get rid of if it gets stuck in the ring.

I’m going to be a nurse and I was planning on just not wearing it to work having a ring is unsanitary in those environments anyways I understand people do it and that’s their business but I personally think it’s wrong to wear it around people with weakened immune systems so you should at the very least take it off for that I can’t make anyone do anything but rings hold a shit ton of bacteria so if you do plan on wearing one take it off around patients at high risk and make sure you are sanitizing it fully regularly for both your safety and the safety of the patients (not attacking the creator btw your video was great and everything you said is true <3)

These must be new nurses cause OGs and the real ones don’t wear those type of rings. It’s a plain band if any. We can’t afford to hinder quality and efficient care. When we step out, all the bling comes out. It’s that simple🤷🏾‍♀️

My ring is a bezel set and low profile exactly because I wear gloves every day for work

RN here, my boyfriend wanted to go ring shopping together so we could find one that wouldn't rip my gloves. The jeweler actually offered to design a ring that has inlaid/inset gemstones because it's kind of hard to find them.
However, I have coworkers that wear their traditional diamond rings and do just fine. I have yet to hear about a patient who was injured by someone's wedding/engagement ring on the unit.
That being said, the nurses and techs who work in the Operating Room and certain medical imaging suites are required to remove their jewelry foor everyone's safety.

I would love a video on low profile rings with examples. I am a girlie who is always running her hands through her hair! I usually wear stoneless rings or 3/4 eternity bands but I would love to see engagement rings with low profiles.

If you’re doing impatient care, you’re not supposed to wear your rings. I have a flat band, but I work outpatient and I’m a medical assistant.

Healthcare and jewellery do not mix. All my healthcare employers prohibited all jewellery on the premises.

Whoever went through multiple years of medical training and still chooses to wear jewellery deserves any kind of damage that happens to it. Not only is it a safety hazard (accidentally hitting someone, scratching something/someone) it’s also a huge hygiene issue. Most people will not clean their ring and stuff thoroughly after each patient and even if, it’s simply not possible to clean every little edge.

Simply wear nothing below the elbow. Keep your ring on a necklace or jewellery box but nurses who think they should wear jewellery (or long nails cause wtf) are out of their mind.

You’re not supposed to wear jewelry, not even clear nail polish in healthcare, so unless you’re breaking healthcare guidelines, it shouldn’t matter what kind you get.

i would just buy a chain to wear it as a necklace under my scrubs
