On Water Demo: Feelfree Dorado With Motordrive

Finally got a chance to demo the new Feelfree Motordrive unit. This plug and play unit connects directly into the Feelfree Overdrive, turning the pedal drive into a troling motor. The motor is a 40lbs thrust brushless motor that equals a 1.5hp. It runs off a deep cycle battery that fits in the rear of the Dorado.

I think the overdrive motor system is somewhat under appreciated. There are other kayaks that have a trolling motor but none that incorporate a trolling motor with a pedal system. You can motor to your fishing spot then switch to pedal drive to fish. This is a unique feature which other manufactures should look at. The system however could maybe use some refinement.

Yeppers, I like the idea for those not sure of how much effort it takes to go fishing and to find fish, you have the motor to get you back with the joy of still liking to go out and do it! I also like the lights that were on the other video. Especially if your in the fog, some people don’t know to slow down when your in the channel and your fishing, they speed by like that’s why I got a big, fast boat, race by like I can get between that slow moving boat and that stopped boat quick. Got to be visible and safe on the water.

i just dont understand why manufacturers dont just slap on a cheap but incredibly reliable bafang found on e-bikes, and do a electric-assist pedal. heck, just slap on one of the million e-bike battery packs too, like in a dry bag or something.

I'm liking the deck space the Dorado has fore and aft. I wonder if it is possible to carry a lightweight passenger just behind the seat or maybe in front. I weigh 135lbs and my wife weighs 107lbs. I plan on pleasure cruising with pedal power and trying to decide whether to get a tandem like the Lure II with a single drive unit and have even more space with one seat removed for camping gear when I go out solo or the spacious single Dorado. I doubt if my wife will come out very often. But you never know.

2. Can you show the bottom side of the kayak. 3. How many hours does the battery last from a full charge? 4. Do they have like the pedal assist electric kayaks like ebikes do? 5.What's the price of this electric kayak? Thanks.
I am into ebike cycling from just a year ago. I am enjoying the benefits. Plan to get a Merida pedal kayak soon to combine with my fishing hobby. Good video.

I do love the feel free fleet. But they really need to work on that motor sound. It's really loud. I run my Oldtown Top water 120 pdl, and just received my new J2 Bixpy PP 768. I also purchased the Bixpy gravity rudder. Can't wait to feel the extra power that bigger battery puts out. 😎 🎣 🛶

I think I'll get the Feelfree 11.5 v2 and put a 65 # thrust trolling motor on it
That thing is loud.
I'll be calling soon not to soon but soon I'm still looking but I'm almost sold on Feelfree love the lay out.

If it wasn't so damn expensive I'd buy one for my overdrive. Hopefully in the next few years used ones will pop up. People buy things and then realize they won't use it and then sell it.

Has your kayak got a wheel .. if so, would this wheel be suitable for transporting the kayak, perhaps from a car-park to the water ... Or is it really just for beach use. ? It seems a very useful feature with the Feelfree kayaks, I’m surprised other manufacturers don’t adopt this idea.
