WOMAN and TIME: Deanna Durbin

She began her career in 1936, when she was still a child. Deanna Durbin was one of the famous children of Hollywood of that era.
She starred in 20 films. The images she created on the screen were in many ways similar. They were playful and innocent creatures, kind and in many ways ingenuous.
In those years it was like a chill of fresh air among the crumbling world.
In addition to the actor's gift and Durbin was a beautiful voice. This added to her movie images even more charm and beauty.
In the Soviet Union, and today in Russia, we really love her film His Butler's Sister, where Deanna sings old Russian romances in Russian.
She miraculously managed to convey the atmosphere of the Russian romance. Her voice, movements, facial expressions fully correspond to this subtle and unsteady mood. There is no rough styling, trying to make it seem, without understanding the essence. She was able to convey the same elusive, which has no words in any language.

Deanna has grown, the world has changed. She tried to match these changes and starred in a fashionable then noir-style film. But the public did not accept her new image. The return to way musical melodramas also did not bring success.
Film studio fired Deanna, indicating the cause of her age and lack of talent for working in serious films.
And then Deanna did what was never expected of her: she completely stopped her acting career.
It was the 1950s, Deanna was only 29 years old. She was young, beautiful, possessed all the glory of the world, but she preferred quietness, protection from reporters and insects. Her new husband Charles David promised to give her that. He kept the promise.
Deanna died quite recently, in 2013, having outlived her husband by 14 years.
She was not forgotten, and hardly ever will be forgotten. Her name is written not only in the history of world cinema, but also in the cultural code of the whole world.
The latest photos of Deanna Durbin are not easy to find. I did not succeed. I think she wanted it.
Only once did she allow to publish her photo in order to prove that she had not grown fat and was passing through the Triumphal Frame without having her stomach tucked.
I apologize for the mistakes. This is not me, this is Google translator.

So nice to see pictures of her in later life, something not often seen with other film stars who have left us .

She was a delightful and caring person! I never met her in person, but we had a sporadic correspondence by mail from 1971 to 2006. She didn't reply to every letter I wrote, but she always responded eventually and was very kind and lovely. What a talent and what an incredible lady! I think my favorite song from her repertoire is "The Last Rose of Summer." Exquisite!

Deanna Durbin was such a wonderful & superlative singer, actress and human. She had class & repect for herself. Hollywood did not treat actresses well. Deanna was too clever for their silly attitude. Look how Judy Garland was treated. It was awful. Deanna left her trademark & left at the right time. I have all her movies & original albums. What talent, elegance & grace. Bless you Deanna & thanks!

Deanna Durbin was stunningly beautiful woman! And a very talented actress with the voice of an Angel. I heard that She was a kind person. I am glad she lived the happy life she wanted, away from the Paparazzi & ridicule! A legend!
Thank you for this wonderful video! Nice work!

Thank you for the care you put into this! It really touched me… esp the few pictures of her with her husband and little boy. I’m so happy she got away from the craziness and had a life that she loved. Although I have to say I’m grateful she did spend so much time making films because many of them are fine... and her talent has enriched us all

I grew up watching her movies and still love them so much! She’s gorgeous and has the widest range in a voice I’ve ever heard. Her acting is always on point and she can be dramatic and a comedian. ❤❤ She was smart to get out of Hollywood when she did and I hope she enjoyed her life outside of Paris. ❤

I wish she had continued to at least make albums now and then. Her voice was so beautiful! Seems so sad that she stopped sharing it with the world. I think it would have been hard to do as well. I couldn’t imagine a time where I could give up painting. Unable to sing since covid though.

She took good care of her self, better than Judy Garland did for her own.
