DIFFERENT BASS STYLES IN METAL 😈🔥

Composing bass lines to different session projects requires to fit the style and to have enough techniques to complement music. Here is a short clip where I do different right-hand styles.

Raw sound with a bit of compression and saturation on a top-end.

I would say Alex Webster for the 3 finger stuff as well.

If a Warwick thumb and a Dingwall had a baby it would be this guy's bass tone man!

A better mention for slap would be Ryan Martinie because he was probably the first to implement that in metal music along with his heavy claw-style chord and octave playing, closer to the neck. He really changed what it meant to be a metal bassist way back then. Both he and Alex Webster honestly. They never used a pick either.

The bass player for dethklok had an interesting way of doing the fast parts by taking his middle finger and over lapping it on top of the index finger. Fun shit.

Steve DiGiorgio had an inadequate 3 finger technique that limited him from playing fast 16th notes. He does RMIM instead of RMIR, so his 3 finger technique was only good for gallops

The Djenty vibe come more from James Leach from Sikth in early 2000's

Dude.. you have rightly credited Evan Brewer for bringing double thumb to metal.. you are the first person I’ve seen credit that correctly, you know your shit for real

Man I think distorted bass sounds so much better played with a pick (or fingernail in your case lol). The flubbiness when you were hammering away on that low string puts out mad wet fart energy. The rest of your techniques sounded sick though!

Man I still have a lot to learn. Sorry guys as a guitar player now focused on strictly on bass, guitar playing is so much easier 😢

I’d definitely say Steve Harrison for the heavy 3 fingers as well or at least laying the blueprint for it

Alex Webster was fucking awesome to talk with about bass. Ryan Martini was fucking cool too, but a little too humble when speaking about bass. Weird, right?🤘🤘

For most bands bass is not audible. One must make it much louder to be heard like in this video.
