In this episode of #TheDailyDoug, I'm going back to one of the songs from my adolescence that is in the category of "didn't realize how great it was at the time." Silent Lucidity is Queensryche's all-time most popular song. It's a beautifully produced record with excellent vocals, sensitive guitars, and lush orchestral arrangement by Michael Kamen. We're listening to the 2000 remastered version of the studio recording.

Finally!!!! Silent Lucidity is one of the best rock ballads ever written, both lyrically and musically 🎶 🔝

I've heard this song hundreds of times over the last 30 years and never caught the lullaby at the end. Mind blown.

Nothing beats the Chris DeGarmo era of Queensrÿche!

I am not a musician but am a music lover. I have always been envious of people like Doug who can hear chords, notes, time signatures etc. simple by listening to a piece of music. Thank you for the insight and sharing your gift and love of music.

For a grown man of 53...having lost both his parents over the last 2 years...this song is just PERECTION!

The album that followed Empire is Promised Land, which I think deserves more notice than it gets. The song “Bridge” will just rip your heart out. Recommended.

Love listening to Doug. It's like the Bob Ross of music.

Been a musician for 45 years - been listening to this tune since it came out - NEVER caught the Brahms Lullaby at the end till you pointed it out. Brilliant!

This song has always been very intriguing to me. I didn’t realize that decades ago that it would become a source of inspiration and comfort to me as just a month ago, I had to say farewell to my father after he passed away at 84 years of age. Thank you to all of the band members that produced such a timeless and beautiful piece of music. I will be forever grateful. Thank you to Doug for posting the awesome reaction video also.

My first experienc with Queensryche, didn't even know who they are, and I am totally blown away... Thank you as always, Doug. Now, where's the darn 20 thumbs-up button???

Absolutely blown away by Brahms Lullaby at the end. It fits so well thematically with this song and I never noticed it in all my years of listening! Great analysis as always, Doug! I love it when you improvise along with the music.

Kaman's orchestration serves the song so well

I've always loved that when Geoff says 'tumbling down', Scott follows with a tumbling descending drum fill. I feel that's an intentional ornamentation.

My favorite Doug videos BY FAR are when he's at the keys. I love when you play along with songs and add vocal melodies.

The entire Empire album is amazing, yet doesn’t live up to the masterwork of Operation: Mindcrime.

The late great Michael Kamen on the orchestration and directing on this beautiful piece of music.

One of the best ballads in rock music. Geoff Tate one of the best vocalist.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the complete Operation:Mindcrime album. Generally considered the band's greatest achievement, and possibly the best prog metal album ever.

I can tell, this song it's a big inspiration for many people, also a safe place for most of us. Thank you so much

As it turns out, if you want to find a new favorite rock song all you have to do is find one Michael Kamen worked on. Every one of his rock collaborations is very near perfection. And when he had a song, guitarist and vocalist this good? What more could a music lover want?
