The Chino Divers: Cracking Jerry Brown's Prison Problem

On a hot fall day in Chino, California, a convicted felon wearing a heavy scuba helmet and gear dives to the bottom of a deep-water tank to remove bolts from large metal pipes. It's quite a different scenario from a decade ago, when the man made his living through armed robbery. Now that he's learning the skills of professional diving, discipline and responsibility, he's unlikely to ever commit a crime again. 

Governor Jerry Brown should take notice. As he struggles with a federal deadline to reduce prison overcrowding, this small diving program at the Chino state prison is providing a solution to the state's rehabilitation woes. In this episode of Bravery Tapes, we tell the stories of the felons and instructors who are making it happen.
