Cape York 2020 - Bargara to Cairns

The start of a round trip of just over 8,000 kms. Nothing too adventurous occurring in this leg just lost some brakes heading down the ranges to the coast south of Cairns - some new pads sorted that.

Our first night was spent at the back of the pub at Middlemount, a free camp and access to use the toilet/shower in the pub (whilst it was open). There were plenty of campers using spots near the golf club - not sure what that was like, but probably a little better given camp spots were on grass rather than on bitumen (rear car park).

Our second night was at Fletchers Creek, a pretty little stop with ample camping spots, but next to the main road. Not too much traffic thank goodness.

Cairns was originally a 1 day stop but ended up being 2 days, not for any particular reason, ohh, okay, so I could fix the brakes, and just as well too.

Our next leg (next video) included the Bloomfield track with 2 very steep ascents and 2 equally steep descents. I got caught out on the second descent in second gear, high, ohh my. Those new pads got hammered and I managed to find first gear about the same time the pads were having terrible fade (just about no brakes).

Lesson = when the signs suggest using 4wd low, well, if you are towing, then use 4wd low. We certainly did that on the next circuit of the Bloomfield track, after completing the Creb Track.

I hope that you will get a better jack for your next trip, that one looks very unsafe. Especially if you have to use it on dirt. As always I enjoy watching your videos.
Hopefully in a couple of years we will be able to join you on some of the trips, or at least meet up some where on the road.
