In this episode I discuss a break in Swift News. As for the actual Swift topics we get into the results of the 2020 iOS Developer Survey, a new twitter account to get daily iOS documentation snippets, and how you should properly initialize an empty array in Swift. We also talk about a bunch of iOS Developer tools, ARKit and more.

If you enjoy my teaching/presentation style, I started creating my own iOS development courses at seanallen.teachable.com. You can watch the first ~10% of each course as a free preview to get a feel for them.

I love Swift News, and am sorry to hear you’re thinking about taking a break again. No one else is doing what you do here. I know you’ve expressed concern in the past about these videos not being as “evergreen” as other YouTube videos, and I wish there was something more we could do as a community to better support you. As far as the making of these videos becoming a chore though, I think that’s a part of any project that develops a momentum of its own. Swift News is practically an institution at this point, and as long as you keep it going I think it will naturally exert that type of pressure on you.

Whatever you choose to do, thank you for all of your work on these videos. They are a must-watch for me each week. Cheers.

Thanks for all the hard work putting Swift News together, Sean. However, it's important to love what you do, so all the best with your other projects.

I do look forward to these updates but I read many of the same types of articles on my own. I just think that your voice and cadence relaxes me LOL. You have a perfect "radio" voice! You are absolutely right - you need to do what excites you! That is how we all got into this stuff anyway - because we love it!

I am always interested in finance as well. The market the past 4 years was superb for me and allowed me to retire 6 years early! Always looking for new strategies for my "play money". I hold out about 10% of my holdings to take calculated gambles where I have the ability to 2X or more my cash over a year's period. Good luck in whatever you decide to pursue! Oh, and I'm not leaving LOL. I will follow you and root for you going forward!

You've made Mondays bearable! I have enjoyed and learned a lot from these segments, but it is way more important to follow your passions!

Love that you are following more what you enjoy. There must be someone else who wants to scour the Swift news. Pass the baton! Or somebody else just grab it (and let me know)

You do you, Sean. If more Swift News videos come out, great. Better to move on to new things than burn out.

Hi Sean, I have a question. ( I’m new to your channel) I’m wondering: how do you build an app like uber where first, you have the Home Screen, then log in page, then the actual app? Like, how do you make each page and then have them lead to the next. How do you make that happen ? I use Xcode on my MacBook. 🙏

no no no. i did not comment on this at all but that does not imply I do not like it. Try it every 2 weeks or something, I think this is cool content for swift starters anyway

Swift UI did me dirty once. I probably never gonna touch it. Because it was cool I stand up and did project on Swift UI fully... What I did not know is Swift UI projects are only comparable for 13.0 IOS and more. Actually there is some main functions for now that needs IOS 14.. This is horrible result. I had to rewrite whole project on UIKit..
