Beginner’s Guide to Prayer

“Thou hast made us for thyself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it finds its rest in thee.” ― Augustine of Hippo, Confessions

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. James 4v8

1. We need God because we came from God. (Genesis 1v11; Genesis 1v20; Genesis 1v26
God is still God without man, but man is dead without God.

2. God loves us and wants a relationship with us. (Psalm 149v4; Zephaniah 3v17; John 3v16; 1 John 4v19)

3. Our Intimacy with God flows from our identity in Christ.

Christians are children of God (John 1v12)
Christians are friends of God (John 15v13-15)
Christians are the bride of Christ (Ephesians 5v25-27).

Revelation, not desperation, is the foundation of true prayer.
Don’t pray like a widow, pray like a bride (Luke 18v1-8)

4. We pray TO the Father, THROUGH the Son, and BY the Spirit!

To the Father:
“You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.” John 15v16 

In the Name of Jesus:
“And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.” John 14v13-14

Through the Spirit:
“And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!”  Galatians 4v6 

“Likewise the Spirit also helps us in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for we as we must, but the spirit makes intercession for us." Romans 8v26

My brother much love from a small town called stanger in South Africa I’m on day 2 of my fast and I went to sleep but I felt restless so right now it’s 1am in the morning I decided to scroll through YouTube and I stumbled upon this video and I’m glad I decided to watch it because the intimacy I was seeking with God I was doing it completely wrong my whole mindset was what must I do instead of focusing what God has done and his love for us thank you for this ministry God bless you!

Day 2 for me and I’ve stumbled a couple times and have had to fight a bit against coming into agreement w shame over it. But each stumble has given me a chance to repent for falling short of keeping my word in a moment of weakness and making a conscious decision to lean into God more the next time temptation feels overwhelming.

I’m so very blessed to have a Heavenly Father who shows me endless grace. I want to make Him proud.

But I have also had some break thrus as well - notably movement in my marriage. There’s a Perceivable shift that’s happening simultaneously and I know it’s The Lord showing some favor. It lets me know He’s with me.
