I've never heard a song more fully encompassing such a pervasive sense of hopelessness and directionlessness. Perfection, in its way.

Townes Van Zandt is so underrated . My dad died January 5 2005, a close friend introduced me to Townes Van Zandt music and honestly it hit me like the grief I was feeling. Thank you Townes for sharing your music with us hurt ones and more 🤘🏿🎸

These voices are mysterious like smoke. I'd follow this banjo forever. I'm glad I found this song. Let's not wait around to die !

This song touched my soul. I found it out completely randomly and it’s like finding a very pretty stone on the beach under an endless gray sky

It took Vince Gilligan MONTHS to find the right song at the right time for the scene in Season 2 and the episode called, Bit By A dead Bee. At approximately 37 minutes into the episode this song sums the entire journey for Walter White. Vince Gilligan nailed it with this song.

Breaking Bad Season 2 Episode 3: Bit by a Dead Bee

This song culminates the whole journey Walter was on, its like a look into the future for him. All the times he stated "I do it for the family" to Skylar, to finally come out with the truth at the end "I did it for me! I liked it... I was good at it, and I was really alive!"

🎵 Well its easier than waiting around to die...

I can't describe how this song makes me feel, but if I had to, it's a more hopeful Take Us Back. I hope Clem and AJ make it through this

Such a powerfully gentle song. I heard Townes Van Zandt sing it in a small club in Austin one night. I didn't realize that night how significant it would be to me. At 67, I now know. This is a lovely version - I like the brush on the drums...

Sometimes I don't know where
This dirty road is taking me
Sometimes I don't know the reason why
So I guess I'll keep gambling
Lots of booze and lots of rambling
Well, it's easier than just waiting around to die

Well, one time, friends
I had a ma, I even had a pa
He beat her with a belt once 'cause she cried
She told him to take care of me
She headed down to Tennessee
Well, it's easier than just waiting around to die

Then I became of age
And I found a girl in a Tuscaloosa bar
She cleaned me out and she hit it on the sly
Well, I tried to kill the pain
I bought some wine, I hopped a train
Well, it was easier than just waiting around to die

Then a friend said he knew
Where some easy money was
We robbed a man and brother, did we fly
But the posse caught up with me
And drugged me back to Muskogee
And now it's two long years, just waiting around to die

Now I'm out of prison
And I got me a friend at last
And he don't steal or cheat or drink or lie
Well, his name is Codeine
And he's the nicest thing I've seen
And together, we're gonna wait around to die

Brilliant arrangement and performance, This is truly music from the soul. Angelic vocals and that haunting banjo.
