The truth about “safe” supply

The theory of safe supply: give people taxpayer-funded “safe” drugs so they don’t use dangerous ones.

The reality: they sell the “safe” drugs (sometimes to kids) to buy more potent ones that kill them.

Enough.

More treatment—not more poison.

Thank you for bringing the reality of this sad situation to light. These people need real help, not more drugs.

At first they told us, “Just say NO!”

Now they say, “Here you go”

Even with safe supply, the addiction to drugs itself destroys lives and puts an immeasurable burden on society.

This is like helping someone clean their room which is in a mess. Sure, the room gets cleaned for now, but their habits don't change and they will get their rooms dirty yet again and again and again.

Absolutely agree. This is NOT what loving your neighbour looks like.

We need a new system that allows people to vote for or remove themselves from some tax programs they aren't aligned too. The government spends our money on things like this that most Canadians don't agree with, yet our healthcare and roads are a mess.

Its alarming how many more homeless drug addicts are here in Edmonton in the last few years...how could anyone think providing legal drugs to people is good? Now that company in Langley can legally dispense cocaine? What the hell is happening to our country

I live in bear and cougar country in central bc. Can I carry a reasonably-sized firearm on my own property to protect myself, my family and my livestock?

No but here’s your free opioids.

It’s not about creating safe spaces for drug users. It’s about making more people dependent on government for all aspects of their lives.

As a tax payer, I don’t agree with the way the govt handles this. Why are we responsible for giving someone with addiction a “safe supply”?

More easily accessible drugs, mean more addicts.

Look at how Portugal handled this problem

B.C. with it's no prosecution laws has become a dumping ground for addicts across Canada, the west coast's climate makes it more attractive for street people - not such a paradise anymore!

There's no such thing as harm reduction, at least not in the piecemeal and fractured way it has been implemented in cities throughout Canada. What Canada has now is more akin to harm enabling. Shoddy, poorly structured and managed programmes have resulted in a significant increase in addictions as well a drug related deaths many times over. One only has to look at statistics before and after roughly 2015 to see that things have gotten worse. Many advocates keep touting Portugal as a role model for how to design and implement harm reduction. But Canada only copied the outer shell of what Portugal created. Portugal's program is way more expansive and structured. It has goals and desired outcomes. In Canada it is a haphazard, nebulous hodge-podge of perhaps and maybes. The latest experiment undertaken by Vancouver won't help. It will only make things worse. Just look at other cities that have tried these type of pilot projects. Speaking of which, "Vancouver Is Dying", is an eye opening documentary available on YouTube in its entirety. It looks that in Canada the proponents and defenders of harm reduction, seem to have abandoned reason and logic in favour of naked lobbying efforts and mindless implementation. The irony is ...they won't be the ones who will have to live with the consequences.

Excellent work…bring the people responsible for this out in the open. Looks like some physicians are acting un ethically.

Pierre I live in Vic, we see how broken the system is everyday. The 900 block of Pandroa hasn't been the same. When I was child, on the corner of Panadora & Vancouver st is now Save On Foods, it use to children catholic elementary school. Because all the services are centralized to our downtown, it's causing our down core to melt down. Weekly their is restaurant closing its doors, there are more and more vacancies. What's their answer raise property taxes, raise parking rates. The gate keepers are keeping the gates CLOSED. Thank you I hope you do become Prime Minister, because this nation needs you now more then ever.
