Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly condemned on Thursday the recent terrorist attacks in France, including the heinous attack inside a church in Nice, where a woman was beheaded and two others killed in a church, within two weeks of a teacher being decapitated in Paris. The PM also asserted that India stands with France in the fight against terrorism. Meanwhile, political leaders of other democratic countries like Pakistan’s Imran Khan, Turkey’s Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Malaysia’s Mahathir Mohamad have taken a diametrically opposite position to India’s. New Delhi on Wednesday had strongly deplored the personal attacks against French President Emmanuel Macron following his tough stance on radicalism, calling it a violation of the most basic standards of international discourse. In this edition of The Big Picture we will analyse the situation in France: Liberty and Our Fight against terror.

Guests:
1- Kanchan Gupta, Senior Journalist
2- Shakti Sinha, Foreign Affairs Analyst
3- Elisabeth Braw, Strategic Analyst, London

Points to Remember:
1. The French Republic is based on certain principles and values where freedom of expression is very important.
2. Concepts of freedom and liberty are being misused in democracies.
3. Due to globalization and migration, a country has to accommodate a wide range of people of different ethnicities, religions, and beliefs so it is very difficult to set a common set of rules for all.
4. This incident is an example of a conflict between democracy (government by elected representatives) and theocracy (government by divine officials).
5. Europe is paying for its inability to estimate the threat posed by immigrants, it did not quite understand the future challenges of immigration and it is bearing the brunt of it now.
6. The liberal democracies need to be hospitable for every citizen but there should be zero tolerance for this kind of behavior and maybe we should consider deporting those who abuse this hospitality.
7. There is an urgent of an international coalition of democracies that still believe in free speech and an open and plural lifestyle and that the answer to a derogatory remark is not violence.
8. The Indian government has strongly condemned the attacks and if the government really means business, we need to counter the radical propaganda in India as well.
9. The OIC led by Saudi Arabia while deploring the cartoons also condemned the killing of the teacher and the violence, so India and France which have a good relationship with the Middle East and the major Islamic countries need to work together for sharing of intelligence and de-radicalization operations.
10. Like-minded countries should come together and fight the menace of radicalism and terrorism.
Please feel free to add more points.

One thing I have noticed is whenever a shameful act is being reported by that particular community no intellectual from that community who knows it's wrong speak about it... Even on this post no member from that community condemned it even after knowing it's wrong that's their Biggest mistake...they never have courage to speak against the wrongdoers of their community

Europeans have given refuge to wrong people who r violent bcoze they have seen violence since birth.
French ideals of freedom and liberty is very different from indian ideals.
We believe in curtailing rights when it comes to national security and integrity unity.

Charlie Hebdo is a sarcastic medium and it is not selective while choosing it's subject.
Blasphemy is an integral part of abrahamic faiths but it is also primitive concept if one looks from the prism of modern standards. Violence, in any form, especially against the freedom of speech and expression, is unacceptable in a liberal democracy. We have to draw a line somewhere. France is very clear about it's ideal of secularism.

I am condemning any kind of Violance including recent one in France.
But I am seeing the whole game in different way i.e "Someone in the guise of Secularism spreading the ANTI-ISLAMIC sentiments across the world" which is completely unacceptable.
