Artist Check-in with Terence Blanchard

A critical and audience sensation, the opera Fire Shut Up In My Bones by Terence Blanchard returns to The @metopera Apr 8 - May 2, 2024. In 2021, Blanchard made history by being the first Black composer to have an opera performed at the Met. Weekend host Paul Cavalconte sat down with the multiple Grammy-winning composer and jazz trumpeter to take a deep dive into how the culmination of years of experience, collaboration, and the work of those before him have laid the ground work for this moment.

Blanchard has scored countless films, and is known for his many collaborations with the film director Spike Lee, including most recently Da 5 Bloods and BlacKkKlansman. Each was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Score. He credits his father for his love of opera.
