🌧️⚠️SEVERE WEATHER ALERTS issued by SAWS ⚠️ 🌧️
⚠️IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS for Saturday (13 May)⚠️
🟠Orange Level 6: Disruptive rain leading to flooding of settlements, roads and bridges as well as disruption to livelihoods is expected along the eastern coast and adjacent interior of the Eastern Cape.
🟡Yellow Level 4: Disruptive rain leading to flooding of settlements, roads and bridges as well as disruption to livelihoods is expected over the central and eastern parts of the Eastern Cape and the south coast of KwaZulu-Natal.
🟡Yellow Level 2: Disruptive rain leading to localised flooding of susceptible settlements, roads, low-lying areas, and bridges is expected over the Eastern Cape, except in the west, and the extreme southern parts of KwaZulu-Natal.
🟡Yellow Level 2: Damaging waves resulting in difficulty in navigation at sea is expected between Alexander Bay and Plettenberg Bay in the morning.
🟡Yellow Level 2: Winds resulting in localised problems for high-sided vehicles on prone routes are expected over the southern parts of Namakwa District of Northern Cape and the Central Karoo and Cape Winelands of the Western Cape.
“ The most important and significant aspect regarding the weather for this weekend, is that numeric weather prediction models suggest that significantly heavy rainfall, of the order of 100 to 200 mm is likely to occur over the eastern parts of Eastern Cape on Saturday, 13 May, specifically between East London and Port St Johns, including the adjacent interior regions. Moreover, further rainfall is expected to persist over this region on Sunday, 14 May, when significant rainfall spreads over parts of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). Persistent rainfall of this magnitude, enhanced by sustained cool, moist onshore flow against the coastal topography, is highly likely to lead to localised urban and river flooding as well as damage to infrastructure.” – The South African Weather Service
