The Tarnewitz testing site is an artificial peninsula.
Tarnewitz served the german Luftwaffe until the end of the Second World War to test aircraft and on board weapons.
At the end of the war,American troops took the E location.This was followed by the English and later the Red Army.Taken over by the Maritime Police in 1952.The object was later assigned to the 4th Flotilla of the People's Navy,who set up a base on the site.
In 1963 the Coastal Border Brigade took possession of the area and extended it to the dissolution of the NVA in 1990.
