This is out of date. Recent analysis is that Dark Energy may not exist. The previous analysis showed the expansion of the universe was accelerating, so physicists thought there was energy accelerating it. Recent analysis is that time in the intergalactic voids passes at a different rate to in galaxies because of Einsteinian relativity (being close to matter slows time)
