Looking for scorpions at night

The best time to look for creepy-crawleys is at night. On a recent Safari I decided to go scorpion hunting and took with me a very special light. A black light or also referred to as a UV-A light (Ultra violet light). These lights enable us to see scorpions at night. Special thanks to Hanro from the Scorpian Addict with the ID help. (Fantastic WhatsApp group to join)

The reason why scorpions "glow" under a black light is still speculated but according to google: "All scorpions fluoresce under ultraviolet light, such as an electric black light or natural moonlight. The blue-green glow comes from a substance found in the hyaline layer, a very thin but super tough coating in a part of the scorpion's exoskeleton called the cuticle."

Nice little fellow. I have heard about smaller scorpions using more venom that pincers. The UV light would certainly be handy.

Such an amazing looking animal, actually quite beautiful. But as you say, they pack a nasty punch. You guys have some properly dangerous scorpions in SA.
