ArtCraft: Glitch Art

In this episode, I teach some of the basics of databending. Next week, we'll tackle bloodbending.

This is the second episode of ArtCraft. Just something offbeat before we get back to illustration. Sorry for the length! I try to show off a lot of methods.

As a quick guide:
First section contains editing images with a text editor (Notepad++), next part covers using Audacity to modify movie files, then some audio glitching by converting songs into RAW image files, last part contains examples and mixtures of these techniques.

There are many more possibilities for methods. If you're interested in exploring the topic, I'm sure you can develop all sorts of amusing tricks. I'm off to bed, hopefully things upload smoothly while I'm asleep.

this is so interesting!! i've always gone for the faked cosmetic glitch kinds of effects, but introducing the idea of databending is super fun!! you're the first person i've ever seen talk about or show how to mess with files like that -- i would have never thought to switch files to txt and then screw around with them. love this video man its so fun and experimental :D

Yes, you're right, a lousy word choice on my part. In my mind I was thinking about it being the 256th possibility, but I should have said it's 255... especially since I said 00 is 0 right before that.

Try a different text editor (or maybe just different version). The default windows "notepad" would corrupt everything for me, so thats why I had to download "notepad++", which is just a free open source program.
