3rd Grade Math 8.8, Find Part of a Group Using Unit Fractions

A fraction can tell us how many are in part of a group. We use the denominator to find how many smaller, equal groups, that we will divide the total number in the group into. We use the numerator to find how many groups to count. We do several examples of finding a fraction of an amount. We relate a word problem to division, then check it with multiplication as its inverse operation. We solve a fraction word problem that involves information from a frequency table. We solve a fraction word problem that involves division, addition, and subtraction.
