Requiring references should be viewed as a form of discrimination. Why does it matter if anyone has references as long as they are reliable, dependable, and can do the job well

i literally have 0 references and 0 friends, and the job i’m applying for is asking for 7 references just to be a dish washer

Most of the larger companies insist on references. It's like you need to ask your last employer for PERMISSION to leave. It's a WALL put there to exclude people. They're very specific; they ALWAYS want the references of at least to "supervisors" or "managers". There's no exceptions and it's not a wall I create for myself; they put it up.

When a company ask me for references, I use that as an opportunity to ask them if they also have a "No References" policy. Flip the script and throw it back in their court. While you're at it, ask them if their workforce is diverse.

Getting references is hard for me, because my coworkers want favors from me to be my reference so I think it's best to do a criminal background check and allow the employee to do a 90 day probation

Jobs that require serious references are usually low quality jobs with low quality employers, it is an easy red flag to avoid

Any good employer would be grateful to have you on board Adam! I recommend trying to get into a small company, as they'll understand you don't have "traditional" references. Bigger companies are more rigid.

I ran my own nursing based business for three years. Not one organization I have went to with this experience saw it as valid. One company rep said that since I had been working for myself, I probably wouldnt enjoy working there! This is astounding information!!!

i am in the same situation and been out if work for close to 10 yrs and dont have ANY references period. I have an employer after me for 5 references so unfortunately i am gonna have to back out of the running for the job i applied for

A resume is a listing of skills, so you don't need the connections on that per se right. You can use that though to serve what connections you already have and if you need to, you can back that list up by including some phone numbers maybe.

just listening to the tone of this mans voice and how he barks out questions to the one thats asking for help/advice.. demanding answers cant stand people like that. He doesnt get a good reference from me!😅
