I think calum Scott sounds phenomal!! But I absolutely love Robyn!!! And her version will always be first to me. Been listening to Robyn since I was a little kid and I'm 33 now

Sting was always very protective of his song "Fields of Gold" and wouldn't let anyone cover it. But Eva Cassidy, an amateur artist, covered it. After her untimely death, her recordings were bought and released as a legit album.
Reportedly, when Sting heard Eva's version of his cherished song, he shed a tear and said, "That's what that song is *supposed* to sound like."
That's the best reaction I can fathom an original artist having to a cover of his or her original song. Robyn's *thumbs up* is nice too, though :)

Good for him but it's not fair that almost everyone acts as if he owns the song. I'm sorry but Robyn rocks and that song if one of the best songs of all times.

I think many people who say they like Calum Scott’s version don’t really understand what’s happening in Robyn’s version or why it was written and released as an Electro pop song rather than a ballad.

The fact that people think he came up with the slower ballad version is more upsetting than people not realizing it's a cover to begin with. Everyone is quick to say that he changed up the song but in fact he did not. Robyn had done that exact ballad version years before. In fact, the instrumental he used in his Britain's Got Talent audition was taken from ANOTHER YOUTUBER. So not only did he not come up with this arrangement himself, he stole it from another YouTuber as well. There is zero originality from him.

It hurts a part of my soul when people would rather listen to his dreary and empty version of this song or worse when they say they haven't even heard the original version. What made the original so special is the juxtaposition of the thumping upbeat instrumental mixed in with Robyn's sad lyricism. Robyn is so underrated and this song deserved to be the song that gave her a lot of recognition. Sad.

Would be nice if he mentioned his version was based on Robyn's own 'slow version'.

Robyn's original is MILES better than Calum's cover. Makes much more sense to be upbeat and it just has much more edge to it. What Calum did is so expected and boring, just turning it into another bland ballad. His voice is great, but I just don't feel it at all. Robyn's version, on the other hand, can make me cry.

Imagine being famous for doing a cover song. LMFAO that's how sad the music industry is nowadays

It's a better version. I think that happens fairly often too. And we know about the cover because it is so good. Like Luminate's Let My Love Open the Door and too many others to mention. One song I wish people would play the original - Harry Nilsson's "One." It's very different than Three Dog Night's version. But stunning in it's own right.

His cover is based off of the kings of Leon cover which is a much better cover than his.

Too humble hahaha he actually surpassed the original even robyn knows that.

His version (well the remix of it) is better than Robyn’s original.
