Show Hide Visual

The challenge of selectively showing report elements has plagued Power BI report developers for many years now, but there is no out of the box solution for this problem at this point in time. It is possible to use bookmarks to show and hide an object, but the user must click a specific button to do this. If you want the user to be able to interact with a report and see (or not see) a chart based on some valid selection across the report, for the moment, this article is the best solution available:

Excellent video - solved my problem almost perfectly. In my case, I needed to determine if only a single item was selected from my slicer. Forcing single-select wasn't feasible, since I've otherwise painted myself into a logical corner.

I changed your [Check Filtered] measure to: Check Filtered = = 1

Its clunky but it works. I really hope PowerBI eventually gets some sort of update to show/hide visuals dynamically

Brilliant Video mate. Thank you. I have a question, I followed the exact steps, however when I add the "hide visual" measure to one of my graph as a filter, I see only " is less than" and there is no other drop down in the filter that comes. I wanted to select "is" 1. I checked if there is any issue with the data type but I don't see any issue there.
Below is the Hide Visual Measure:
Hide Visual =
IF ( [Check Filtered], 1, 0 )

Not sure what I am doing wrong. Many thanks in advance. Cheers

Thank you for this article.

Further to this, I'm facing another problem.
As the Message/Transparent card is in front of the Line chart (original visual), it disable interacting with the original visual like showing Tooltip, clicking on the original visual etc...

Any suggestion to send the Message/Transparent card to the Back of the original visual. Can we send the visual to Back/Backward using DAX?

Great tutorial. Thank you. It helped me conditionally hide the line charts (by placing the card over title only of original visual). Now, I am facing issues to completely hide other slicers (Year/Month) based on primary slicer (Interval slicer with value Daily, Monthly, Yearly) selection. Like, we don't want to visualize the Month slicer once Monthly value is selected in Interval slicer. Once I put the card over slicer, then can't interact with drop-down visual. Any workaround tips will be much appreciated.

Hello, thanks for your video. My case is similar but a little different. Based on the selected value of the slicer, I want to hide and show an other slicer visual (so no table visual as in this case), I use a shape that I make transparant or white depending on the selected value of the slicer, that works. But if the shape is transparant and so I can see the slicer visual, it's not clickable? How can I solve that? Thanks in advance

Thanks. This works. Really bad job of Power BI this being so clumsy compared to other BI tools

Thanks for this tutorial. Good solution and explanation. I like the way you use comments in your measures, I haven't seen this done before with DAX.

Great tutorial ! Is there any option to display a custom message while the data is loading and would disappear when data loaded completely?

Honestly very helpful video. Thanks a lot. One question: the message is over the table even when it's transparent after slicer option is selected. If the table has a scrollbar then user cannot scroll down or up because "focus" is still on the transparent message card.
Any further ideas how to solve this?
Thanks again

Great video!
I got a problem tho: When I try to set the filter to "IS", the dropdown options is blocked, I can only select "Is less than". Do you know why?

This was an AWESOME video! I am noticing though that the measure to hide the visual is greyed out when I have Field value selected as the format style in the "Color - Effects" window. Any reasons why that is? Many, many thanks!!!!

Just an update, as of August 2024 this method is not functional as the "Hide Visual" filter placed on the matrix is bugged and has no effect. Tried this with identical steps and have been quite frustrated with the result
