Rather than take any of the blame Criston sets his sights on Sir Arryk whose allegiance is called into question considering his twin brother Ser Erryk defected to Rhaenyra Arryk was with Aegon the night of the murder which is definitely more than Criston can say Arryk even questions why the queen was offered no sworn protector As commander of the Kingsguard Criston has really been dropping the ball If he's this bad at leading the Kingsguard how bad will he be as hand of the king Criston has essentially made Sir Arryk the scapegoat telling him if he doesn't go to Dragonstone and slay Rhaenyra that he will go to the king and accuse Arryk of being a traitor to the crown It's really a no-win situation and the book tells us that the night before he was to leave Ser Arryk prayed for forgiveness to our mother above

the obvious choice would be to swap sides and join his brother instead of killing each other like idiots

Surely when faced with that dilemma you would say “f*ck this” and defer to rheanyra’s side (the right side)

It seems like the obvious choice, but then you think of real history, like the Sanada brothers in the sengoku jidai in Japanese history..yukimura and his bro..

If one brother is on each side of the conflict, no matter who wins, the family clan/house, will be on the winning side
