In today's video I talk about three DACS that I highly recommend in various price ranges and price points. Adding a dedicated DAC to your HiFi can bring small or massive improvements to the sound and these three sound completely different from each other yet all are musical and sound beautiful.

I cover three models, one from Denafrips, one from Holo and one from Nagra. I talk about the sound, the features and my experience listening to all of them long term.

Very happy with the Holo Cyan 2. It’s better than the Gustard R26 that it replaced. I have the LTA Aero tube DAC on order. Curious how the LTA compares to the Holo May KTE.

i'm surprised you didn't mention the Electrocompaniet DAC/Streamer that you raved about a few weeks ago ? (well maybe because it comes with a Streamer which doesn't put it in the same category.... BTW i love the Remote of the Holo May DAC.
oh well. one can dream about the NAGRA Equipment. they're the Patek Philippe of Audio Gears. that's all i can say.

I think all 3 Holo products (May, Spring, Cyan) offer unbeatable value in their respective price ranges. Anyone who has seen them pop up on the used market know they go quickly and keep their value. You'll never see a May KTE for $2500, even today.

Nice review. If you want to get the most from the May, you really need to try it in NOS mode feeding it DSD 256/512/1024 (whatever your PC/laptop can handle) upsampled with HQPlayer. HQPlayer takes a bit to figure out at first, but your ears/mind/heart will thank you for it. It’s pure magic.

Nagra dacs and preamps are truly right at the top. Just exceptional.

Thank you for being very descriptive and elaborating on the different qualities of the 3 price ranges / categories of DAC’s. It is precisely something I was always keen on to learn on more, and there are not many ( no ?) reviews going into this aspect.

25 power supplies, wow, but I can imagine that, power is so important, I provide my usb card and dac with seperate ultra low noise powers, but this is next level indeed, and I mean each of my ultra low noise power supply (ifi elite + isolator) cost around 500USD, so 25 x 500 is already 12500USD! this dac is well worth it I would say :D

Love my Denafrips Pontus II 12th-1 with the Denafrips Iris 12th ddc. To reduce vibration like the Nagra, I bought the Isoacoustics pucks for everything (speakers, woofers, electronics).

I've auditioned the Nagra but I don't hear them any more musical than my setup. For the price of the Nagra, I bought a new 2024 Cadillac XT4.

The nagra Dac is using the playback back designs MPD8 custom FPGA based DSD DAC.

I bought the Weiss 204 with an upgrade power supply, I really enjoy it. How close is the sound of Weiss to the nagra?

Surprised the LAIV Harmony was not mentioned compared to the Denafrips. Mola Mola Tambaqui should be considered in the higher price bracket as well.
