No modern footballer, nor Messi/Ronaldo, could do what Maradona did in 1986, and I could never see Ronaldo or Messi ever play for a nearly relegated Club and win titles. Maradona doesn’t have the numbers to back it up, or even a fancy trophy collection like other players. That’s a testament to how great Maradona was and the impact he left on the pitch, he was able to stun crowds with his performances alone. He didn’t need to win 5 UCL’s with an elite club like Real Madrid, or have countless Ballon D’Or’s. Just watching him alone and you know you’re watching the greatest to ever play.
