CSI: Miami (Crime Scene Investigation: Miami) is an American police drama television series that premiered on September 23, 2002, on CBS. The series was the first direct spin-off of ‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation’ and lasted for 10 seasons.
David Caruso starred the series as Lieutenant Horatio Caine in all 10 seasons. Before CSI: Miami he was a popular cast member of NYPD Blue (1993). In 1994, he won a Golden Globe Award for his John Kelly role on NYPD Blue. Despite this success he decided to quit the show because he wanted to become a successful movie actor.
However, that didn’t work out, so in 2002 he joined the cast of CSI: Miami. His career move was even used in the first episode of South park (entitled "Cartman Gets an Anal Probe") in which Kyle urges his brother to jump from the open cargo-bay door of a hovering alien spaceship by saying, "Quick, Ike, do your impersonation of David Caruso's career," referring to Caruso's then-lack of success after leaving NYPD Blue.
CSI: Miami became immensely successful, but after 10 seasons, the series was cancelled in 2012 due to a decline in ratings. And so, after 10 years of CSI: Miami, Caruso decided to quit acting when the series was cancelled.
