What's your favourite egg idiom? Also still happy to hear feedback on the new animation style, I finally slowed down the moving paper background, let me know what you think!

To answer the chicken and egg question, it's the egg. Animals were laying eggs well before chickens were a thing.

Another idiom worth mentioning is someone "killing the goose that lays the golden eggs, " in obvious reference to Aesop's fable. Basically, the meaning is to ruin a good thing by pushing your luck or getting impatient.

"Egga" is still used in Swedish for encouraging someone to do something, in a straightforward fashion. Like, for example, yelling "do it, do it" repeatedly.

A goose egg is also a raised bump injury to the body, caused by hitting your body on something hard (I once fell down, hit my head on a corner and got a goose egg) or something hitting your body (when the baseball hit the pitcher on his wrist, it left quite a goose egg).

A person who is trans, but has not yet discovered that themselves is called an egg.
And when they discover that they are trans, their egg cracks.

In Spanish, the equivalent to "like apples and oranges" is "como un huevo a una castaña" (like an egg to a chestnut).

I know two more egg-related idioms with eggs. There may be more, but I don't remember them.
- When something is important or really good in comparison you can say, that that is "the yellow of the egg" as the yolk. Or, the other way around, when something isn't really important or good, you can say, that it isn't the yellow of the egg,
- When two people or things look very similar to each other, you can hardly differentiate between them as they are similar "like one egg to anther". Thats because the eggs from one animal look nearly identical to each other.

My mind immediately went to the playful term in Mandarin, 小笨蛋. It means "little dumb egg", but it's used endearingly, often even flirtatiously.

"Universal" is a bit much, I can imagine an alien species who is VERY weirded out by the idea of eating eggs.

I'm surprised you didn't retell Caxton's story of why he had to standardise the language - “And he asked specifically for eggs, and the good woman said that she spoke no French, and the merchant got angry for he could not speak French either, but he wanted eggs and she could not understand him. And then at last another person said that he wanted ‘eyren’. Then the good woman said that she understood him well.”

There is another idiom - it is said when you have a score of 0, you have a (big fat) goose egg.

10:12 Wait, that's a phrase?! So that's why in The BFG during the whizzpopper song he says "as certain as eggses is eggses"

If someone is neither good natured or bad natured, does that just make them an egg?

Or as the French mafia would say, "You cant make le omelet without breaking legs".

here in Central NY, USA, we say it "teach your grandmother to suck an egg"... seems to make more sense than "tell..."
for "can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs" i've always seen it used to indicate that a sacrifice has to be made, not just task to be completed... like collateral damage...

The only idioms I knew of were: "putting all your eggs in one basket", "bad egg", "you can't make an omelet without cracking some eggs" and maybe "go suck an egg" and "walking on eggshells"
