Hatty follows the classic Citadel Miniatures Painting Guide, published before she was born, to paint a modern Citadel Warhammer model!

Let Hatty get you inspired for SPORKTOBER 2023! We are running a fun retro painting competition on Instagram and for Patreon supporters over on the Midwinter Minis Discord server.

Here are the rules!

Challenge
---
Paint any “Ork” or “Undead” style miniature in a retro 90s colour scheme.

Prizes
---
Patreon Ork winner: Space Ork RTB13 sprue from 1990

Patreon Undead winner: Skeleton Army PBS5 box from 1989

Instagram Ork winner: Space Ork Raider “Troopar” from 1987

Instagram Undead winner: Vampire Counts “Wraith 7” from 1992

What’s allowed
---
ANY “Ork” or “Undead” style miniature, GW or not. Retro is great, modern models are great, 3d printed is great, have fun!

By “Ork”, we mean any typical “green skin” model, goblins, grots, nobs, and big stompy walkers and vehicles are fine too!

By “Undead” we mean literally anything spooky. Skeletons, witches, vampires, zombies, ghosts. Basically, if there could be a really bad halloween b-movie about it, it qualifies.

Anyone can enter, regardless of age or location.

Instagram entry
---
Please use the tag #sporktober23 when posting work in progress pics, or final paint jobs. This is how we will find posts to enter them into the competition, and be judged. You can enter both the Ork and Undead side of the competition if you like, but only 1 entry in each category per person, please.

Patreon entry
---
Active Patreon supporters will be able to post work in progress and final paint job photos in the #sporktober23 chat room in the Midwinter Minis Discord server. You can enter both the Ork and Undead side of the competition if you like, but only 1 entry in each category per person, please.

Closing date
---
Judging will take place on October 25th, so please have your entries ready and posted before midnight on October 24th (UK time)

Winners notified
---
Winners will be announced on 31st October, and also contacted privately to arrange prizes.

God. This kind of tutorial is pure gold. I would love more of this deepdive into the videos from the channel. EXCELLENT WORK!

7:09 As Thousand Sons player, can tell that is a pain, and all Thousand Sons minis got that kind of gold trims everywhere.

Really cool and cozy video by the way, loved it!

I was born in 2001 but with a brother 10 years older than me I've always been a bit of a 90s kid at heart. I'm loving these 90s Warhammer videos and it's inspired me to paint my modern Eldar army in the 90s style! Thanks!

Tip for painting the shield would be to paint the whole thing gold and then in fill the red bits sounds counter intuitive but find it tends to be easier.

The gold detail on the shield really stands out and looks great! I would have chickened out and just painted the whole thing in gold lol.

Ahh, that brings me back to the good old days, when an Undead Wight wouldn't be caught alive without some bright primary coloured robes outside of his crypt. Yes, they were tattered from a 1000 years of slumber and the occasional reawakened attack on the Empire but they were spotless. All thanks to the drycleaning services of Nagash Inc., the most effecient part of any Undead army =D

“Oooh I’m so young I was a baby when this was THE style!!” Excellent work from an old git who’s approaching 40 faster than he’d like!

You're right about poses making bits hard to reach. This is why priming black is so attractive! For those afraid of losing vibrancy then start with a very heavy dry brush of white, it won't hit anything you can't reach and so leaves it black.
