Taming of the Shrew (original title)
Released as a silent in 1923, the film The Taming of the Shrew was the first feature-length sound film adaptation of the Shakespearean play of the same name. It was also the first and only on-screen teaming of the world's most beloved and popular couple, Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks.
Set in Padua, THE TAMING OF THE SHREW is the story of Katherine, a beautiful but headstrong woman, and Petruchio, a young man who has arrived with the intention of finding a wife. Kate's father will not allow his younger, more agreeable daughter Bianca to marry until his older daughter is wed, and Petruchio is convinced to try taming the shrew.
