Why is this still happening?

The Alameda County Fair is awarding live goldfish as prizes.

Awarding live fish as prizes increases the likelihood that people will be unprepared for the responsibility and uninvested in the well-being of their fish.

The effort required to care for fish is often underestimated. Goldfish are social creatures that require a filter and a lot of space, and they can live around 10-15 years with proper care.

Recipients will have to spend a lot of time and money if they want to provide their fish with a suitable environment.

Fish aren't objects for entertainment or short-term amusement -- owning a pet is a responsibility that takes planning and preparation.

I won one the other day and felt bad, I was going to give it to someone but I ended up keeping it. My problem is that I got a 2.5 gallon tank and I know that’s not big enough, but it’s all I have room for. I figure it’s better than those crappy “tanks” they sell at the fairs.

My sister won one it lived for 13 yrs 😊and my sis was not prepared for it but we got another one it lived happily in a big tank

If I win a goldfish at a fair, I will put it in a 10 gallon tank and if it gets too big, I will take it out and give it to my friends pond and that’s where you have a happy life but that’s only if win one

I heard that there was a big protest going on where people were storming Fairs And helping the fish I think one fair even shut down

They use fish bait. Basically fish that are used as food for other fish in pet stores or other uses. They only live for a week.

When I was six I got a fish off of a hook a duck stall, I loved him so much but I only had him for 2 weeks before he passed 😢 His name was Fin 🤍

This is a beyond useless cause. Check the tag on your shirt. If it's not made in the US, you've got bigger things to worry about.
