Ghidorah was described as "The Devil with three heads", however it seems like this was more than just a nickname...

In Dante's Inferno Satan is described as being a colossal monstrous being with three faces and bat-like wings. It's stated that as Satan beats his wings, he creates cold winds and storms. He is shown to be trapped within the Ninth Circle of Hell, which is described as being a frozen wasteland. Satan awakens and rises from the pits of hell to terrorize helpless mortals and he attempts to usurp the power of God to take control of the world. Sound familiar...

Interestingly, in the movie, Ghidorah is described as being a "False King", which is what the Devil is occasionally referred to as being. In other biblical stories the Devil is associated with serpents or snakes, occasionally taking the form of one, most notably in the story of Adam and Eve. Needless to say, Ghidorah has a lot of snake-like/serpentine features. It's also intersting to note that, in the movie, it is stated that ancient civilizations were afraid to speak Ghidorah's name and refused to keep records of his existence, it's possible that they were afraid to acknowledge him because they were scared of potentially summoning him and feeling his wrath. In other words, "Speak of the Devil, and he shall appear".

So it seems that Ghidorah has more connection to the Devil than we initially believed...
