After World War II he would go on to be appointed to various governmental organizations where he would lobby against Nuclear Arms proliferation and suggest instead that nations should focus on developing Nuclear Defense programs, Nuclear energy, agreements with other nations to not use Nuclear Arms, and the formation of an International Nuclear Regulatory Body. Then there is even more about him and his multiple affairs, affiliation with the Communist Party, being monitored by the FBI for years, and his demise in the form of being a Martyr of McCarthyism and the Arms Debate. Then there are other related themes at play such as the irreversible intertwining of Science and the Military beginning at this time.

The later stages of his life played out as a tragedy of sorts as he was casted out of the government and had his security clearance revoked as he was deemed too suspicious for his affiliation with the Communist Party. This decision was overturned in 2022, 55 years after his death, after KGB records showed that Oppenheimer was never involved in espionage for the Soviet Union and if anything he was actively interfering with Soviet intelligence by removing several people from the Manhattan Project who had sympathies to the Soviet Union.

As a final note, he never earned a Nobel Prize despite his major contributions to various fields of science. Maybe I will do a future video where I go into all of this more!
