Adding and Subtracting Rational Expressions

In this video, we learn how to add and subtract rational expressions. Just like with fractions, there are two scenarios: the first occurs when we have a common denominator. With this scenario, we add or subtract numerators and place the result over the common denominator. The second scenario occurs when we don't have a common denominator. In this case, we must obtain a common denominator first, then transform each rational expression into an equivalent rational expression with the LCD as its denominator. Lastly we add or subtract numerators. Once we are done, we always simplify our answer.

sir may I ask it it's okay if we look for common factors first within the numerator and the denominator of a single/each term so we can cancel if there's any, before finding out the lcd of both the expressions?
